Reading & Literacy

Reading is an exercise for the mind. It helps kids calm down and relax, opening doors to knowledge. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that whatever we grow up to become in our lives, no matter where we stand, reading has somehow shaped it. Because we believe so strongly in the power of literacy and reading, we have found several ways to bring books to the children of our region. Our members read to preschoolers, we maintain three little libraries, we distribute early learning guides, and we provide free books at events such as Kid’s Day and our Gifts for Kids program.

Reading to Preschoolers

Our club members visit McLane Church and the Growing & Learning Center every month to read to
their pre-school classes. It’s hard to say who loves it more, the kids or our members!

Little Libraries

The Kiwanis Club of Edinboro maintains three little libraries around town.

Lakeside Commons
119 Erie Street

Edinboro Laundromat
105 Ontario Street

Mill Street Laundry
202 Mill Street

These libraries are stocked with children’s books for all age ranges.

Early Learning Guides

The PA Kiwanis Foundation supports the efforts of Pennsylvania Kiwanians in the printing and distribution of Early Learning Guides to be distributed to families across the Commonwealth.

Through the work of Pennsylvania Kiwanis clubs, to date, we have been able to impact children in 55 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.
